At Cruelty Free Consumer, we take pride in partnering with brands that align with our values of cruelty-free living and sustainability. We featured Brixy in our Cruelty Free Fall Beauty Must-Haves and are to introduce our community to this brand at a deeper level. We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Jennifer Brodwick, co-founder of BRIXY, along with founder Kevin Brodwick and CEO Trey Vilcoq, to discuss their journey in creating a Leaping Bunny Certified, cruelty-free brand that’s making waves in the hair care industry. We’ve also got an exclusive code for our cruelty free community from Brixy!

What inspired you and the team to start a cruelty-free, Leaping Bunny Certified brand?
Jennifer: From the very beginning, we knew BRIXY had to be cruelty-free. Our background in developing safe consumer products led us to prioritize both human safety and animal welfare. With our first company, we championed safer products for people, and that naturally extended to animals. For us, getting the Leaping Bunny Certification was essential because it’s the gold standard for verifying that products are truly cruelty-free. We wanted to be transparent and show our customers that our products are rigorously vetted by a trusted third party.
Tell us about BRIXY and why you chose to use bars?
Jennifer: We wanted to create products that solve real problems while being fun and effective to use. Our focus started with using safe ingredients for people, free from endocrine-disrupting chemicals. But we also wanted to address the environmental impact of plastic waste, so we created concentrated beauty bars for hair and skin care to eliminate plastic packaging.
Why bars? The technology behind solid bars already existed with soaps, so we adapted it for shampoos, conditioners, and face washes—without using traditional soap ingredients like waxes or high pH cleansers, which can be harmful to hair and skin. Instead, we formulated our bars with gentle, pH-balanced cleansers designed for specific hair and skin types, using nourishing ingredients like aloe, pumpkin seed oil, and glycerin. Our bars last three times longer than their bottled counterparts, use zero plastic, and offer better performance, which we believe is a win for both our customers and the planet.
How do you see BRIXY contributing to the cruelty-free marketplace?
Jennifer: We hope to lead by example and encourage more brands to pursue the Leaping Bunny Certification. The level of consumer awareness is growing, and people are becoming more educated about what truly qualifies as cruelty-free versus what’s just marketing. This is exciting because it will push more companies to seek certification and prioritize animal welfare.
Do you have any nonprofits that are important to you?
Jennifer: We’ve always been passionate about supporting nonprofits. With our first company, we donated to organizations like Save The Whale and Feed The Children. For BRIXY, we’ve partnered with ECOEVO, a nonprofit that our founder Kevin started alongside BRIXY. ECOEVO focuses on restoring natural habitats and tackling environmental issues through initiatives like beach cleanups and tree planting. We donate 1% of our sales to support their mission, and we’re excited about the impact we can make together.
What advice do you have for consumers on their cruelty-free journey?
Jennifer: The key is to start where you are. You don’t have to throw away your current non-cruelty-free products. Just start by swapping one product at a time for cruelty-free alternatives, and before you know it, you’ll have made significant changes. The journey is personal, and it’s important to give yourself grace as you take each step.
We love our community to see the real people behind the brands, what is one fun fact about you?
Jennifer: I was raised abroad for most of my young life, which gave me a deep curiosity and appreciation for different cultures and ways of life. It’s shaped my perspective and approach to everything I do.
What is your current favorite BRIXY product?
Jennifer: Right now, my favorite product is the Strengthen Shampoo Bar. It’s designed for thinning hair, but I love it because, as I enter my 40s, I’m focused on strengthening my hair and protecting my scalp. The pumpkin seed oil and rosemary oil in the formula have been shown to work just as effectively as traditional hair growth treatments, and our BRIXY Blend with ceramide and niacinamide helps build a stronger moisture barrier for hair and scalp protection. It’s a must-have for me, especially living in Utah’s harsh climate.
